World premiere of Lovesickness, by Rosanna Gamson/Worldwide, with music by Shane W. Cadman, at Highways Performance Space in Santa Monica, CA. The music for this performance was prerecorded on CD (at Trompe l'Oreille in Anaheim), and was performed by Greg Adamson ('cello), Ruth Bruegger (violin), Ray Frisby (percussion), John P. Hoover (bass clarinet) and Scott McIntosh (clarinet), with Shane conducting. For more information on Lovesickness CLICK HERE.
1/22/2000 The ITO recorded the music for Women of Mystery at a recording studio at UCLA. The music was composed by Shane and John, in their first collaboration since "The Good Woman of Setzuan" at CSU Fullerton in the Spring of 1989. They did not work together on the score, but instead took different sections of the film. Shane composed the music for the narration sections (opening, closing and two dividing the film) and the section on Sue Grafton. John composed the music for the sections on Sara Paretsky and Marcia Muller. The music for this score was performed by Greg Adamson ('cello), Reg Clew (violin), Ray Frisby (percussion), John P. Hoover (bass clarinet), Ross Kalling (piano) and Scott McIntosh (clarinet), with Shane conducting.
4/5/2000 The ITO gets its own domain on the web (www.theito.org)!
10/1/2000 The ITO performs live for the first time in over two (yes, two!) years, at the Knitting Factory in Hollywood. We are part of the Lard Asylum Variety Hour, produced by Jerome Dunn (Jerry the Priest). The ITO is Greg Adamson ('cello), Ruth Bruegger (violin), Shane W. Cadman (keyboard), Jeff Fairbanks (keyboard), John P. Hoover (bass clarinet), Ross Kalling (keyboard) and Scott McIntosh (clarinet). This performance featured the premieres of "1441," "The Fourth Man in the Fire," and "This is my Resting Place," (taken from "Dancing in Bedlam") by Shane, and "Carnival of the Miserable" ("Cotton Candy of Doom," "A Beautiful Day in the Dark," and "Claustrophobic Carousel") by John.
10/5 & 6/2000 Women of Mystery premieres in San Francisco and Los Angeles. For more information on Women of Mystery CLICK HERE.
11/11/2000 The ITO performs live at the Orange County Center for Contemporary Art as part of a "Music from the Autonomous Zone" evening. Lloyd Rodgers describes it this way: three composer/performer ensembles (The Lloyd Rodgers Group, The Illustrious Theatre Orchestra, and The Festival Orchestra and Singers (featuring Sean Ferguson, Jeremy Reinbolt and Matt Menaged) presenting a wide variety of 'pomo' music from aggro-minimalism to agit-prop romanticism to 'pop-minimalism'." The ITO is Greg Adamson ('cello), Ruth Bruegger (violin), Shane W. Cadman (keyboard), Jeff Fairbanks (keyboard), John P. Hoover (bass clarinet), Ross Kalling (keyboard) and Scott McIntosh (clarinet). This performance featured the ITO premieres of "Not the High Dive" and "Counting on the Weatherman" by Jeff Fairbanks. Also, we break the ITO rules and do an arrangement of a piece by a non-ITO composer. As an homage to Lloyd Rodgers (this is the first time we've shared an evening with him!), we performed the "Overture" to his ballet "The Little Prince."
6/6/2001 The ITO performs live at the Mark Taper Forum Access Celebration. This was an extremely rare outdoor "casual" performance, but was much appreciated (by all) nonetheless. John really worked hard for this one, writing and rearranging a lot of music, including some specifically for this occasion. This performance featured premieres by Shane W. Cadman, Jeff Fairbanks and John P. Hoover. For this rare performance, the unusually large and uniquely orchestrated ITO was Eric Bergkvist (trombone, wind synthesizer), Ruth Bruegger (violin), Shane W. Cadman (electric bass), Jeff Fairbanks (keyboard), Ray Frisby (percussion), Mathew Galasso (keyboard), Hank Hofmann (trombone), John P. Hoover (baritone sax & bass clarinet), and Audrey Izuhara (clarinet).
8/18/2001 The ITO performs live at the Orange County Center for Contemporary Art. For this performance, the ITO is Jeff Alu (keyboard), Shane W. Cadman (electric bass), Jeff Fairbanks (keyboard), John P. Hoover (bass clarinet, baritone sax), Jennifer Lane (accordion), John Marr (keyboard), Scott McIntosh (clarinet) and Katie Mendenhall ('cello). This performance featured the ITO premieres of "Dreaming in the Garden of Gethsemane" by Shane W. Cadman, and "Search Engine" by Jeff Fairbanks.
10/6/2001 Joshua Cadman (the third and final Cadman child) is born. Usually the birth of a child does not get a place in the ITO history, but in this case, Joshua's arrival was a big part of Shane's decision (in addition to growing family and work responsibilities) to leave the ITO. The group continues on under the leadership of John Hoover and Jeff Fairbanks.
7/20/2002 The ITO performs live at the Orange County Center for Contemporary Art. For this performance, the ITO is Ruth Bruegger (violin), John Ciulik (electric guitar, trumpet), Jeff Fairbanks (keyboard), John P. Hoover (bass clarinet, baritone saxophone, viola - yes, viola!), John Marr (keyboard), Scott McIntosh (clarinet), Katie Mendenhall (violoncello), Martin Tardiff (double bass).
10/11/2003 The ITO performs live at Mount Hollywood Congregational Church in Los Feliz, CA. The ensemble for this performance is: Greg Adamson ('cello), Ruth Bruegger (violin), Jeff Fairbanks (keyboard), Sean Ferguson (electric guitar), John P. Hoover (baritone saxophone, bass clarinet), Scott McIntosh (clarinet), Katie Mendenhall ('cello), John Marr (keyboard), Martin Tardiff (double bass).
11/18 & 19/2003 The ITO breaks tradition (once again) and performs live in an open rehearsal/performance. The augmented line-up is: Ruth Bruegger (violin), Jeff Fairbanks (keyboard), Sean Ferguson (electric guitar), John P. Hoover (baritone saxophone, bass clarinet) Scott McIntosh (clarinet), Katie Mendenhall ('cello), John Marr (keyboard), Martin Tardiff (double bass).
