BACKGROUND

The Illustrious Theatre Orchestra was founded in 1989 by Shane W. Cadman and John P. Hoover. While still in college, they envisioned and created a standing ensemble that would be used for collaborative works in the fields of theater, dance, film and visual arts. The ensemble began by performing concerts of its original music leading to the output of two CD's, Standing on the Shoulders of Giants (1993) and Pythagorean Xydiko Machine (1995). Since then, the ensemble has continued to perform its concert repertoire while establishing more connections with collaborative artists. The ensemble has accompanied Naomi Goldberg's Los Angeles Modern Dance & Ballet and Oguri's production of A Flame in the Distance. The ensemble is currently performing in galleries and other performance spaces in Southern California.

PHILOSOPHY

The ensemble has always remained true to its original intent: to perform the compositions of its members. The composers of the ITO believe that they offer a refreshing alternative in the world of music. Coming from the Post-Modern tradition, the music is an eclectic weave of classical, minimalist, pop and music theater styles. The main focus of the ensemble is to offer this new music to the public, primarily through its work in conjunction with other media.

VISION

The Illustrious Theatre Orchestra is seeking to become an active resource for the creation of cross-disciplinary works of art. Poets, playwrights, dancers, actors, directors, choreographers, painters, video manipulators - all these and more are sought for forming interesting and satisfying artistic collaborations. Through fundraising and grant-writing, the ensemble plans to use all aspects of its non-profit corporation to provide production support for these projects. The ensemble also wishes to create educational programming as a way to give back to the community and promote the arts.
